Developing Tech Literacy

Developing Tech Literacy

When it comes to tech, we can get lost sometimes. After all, tech is an umbrella term, and that umbrella covers a vast array of various gadgets and gizmos. It can make your head spin listening to all of the tech specs that are genuinely hard to distinguish from the techno babble of sci fi classics like Star Trek. And, that’s a real shame, because tech plays a prominent role in modern life, as it has become integrated into every facet of modern society, and we interact with it on a daily basis. Therefore, we need to know more about the tech that we must co exist with; we must develop a level of tech literacy that will prepare us for the unique challenges of the modern era. Here are some tips to help you develop your tech acumen.

First and foremost, there’s nothing quite like good old fashioned research. The good news is that tech has made good old fashioned research much, much easier than it used to be. For instance, simply using Google to find tech info online can be a great way to fill in the gaps of your tech knowledge (get it?) However, there’s often no substitute for other, more credible sources of information. You can’t always trust the info you can find online, after all, and it can be hard to distinguish between valid and invalid information. That’s why another great way to become more familiar with tech is by reading about it in another good old fashioned piece of tech, books. The act of publishing a non fiction book requires a degree of fact checking, making books a more credible source of information most of the time. What you lost in convenience is more than made up for in reliability. Another great way to learn more about tech is by attending lectures or seminars. So, why not rent a car with Hertz and attend one of these events at your nearest convention center? There’s nothing quite like hearing the information you need straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak, especially if the horse has a PHD!
